Nawlins

So here it is. I'm in New Orleans for the AFP International Conference. If I had blogged a couple of days sooner, or heck, before I even arrived, someone could have given me suggestions for must-do nightlife. As it is, I'm on my last night here. We arrived on Sunday morning and I took this shot outside a used/antique furniture shop. Artwork seems to be in nearly every commercial establishment!

Polka-dotting

I was on the road yesterday and had an hour or so in between meetings. Most graciously, the University of Central Florida has wifi throughout the campus. Here I am catching up on emails and phone calls. I discovered the sweetest baby picture of my daughter when I moved to Florida and decided it should stay with me - right below my library card numbers!

Dunedin Delivery

The sun doesn't really shine every single day here in the Tampa Bay area, but just about. It means colors are vibrant and shadows are sharp. It's fun stuff. As you already know, Rich and I were cruising around on foot in Dunedin and in an alley under the stairs sits two mailboxes. How about that? They must get a lot of mail too - just look at that bent rail!

Mini-Mexico in Dunedin

I wanted OUT - out of the house. So we headed up to Dunedin, got stuck in Clearwater Beach spring break traffic and wound up in Dunedin at dinner time. We had to stop for a meal. And we did. Casa Tina was festive, fun and delicious. This was no sloppy, wanna-be Mexican food stuff. Wow was this good food!

Mahuffer's Memorial

So there was this very cranky ole man who owned a bar and he died. His daughter took over the business and she is a lot friendlier, hence the crowd that turned up to hear a fine young man in his 70's from Alabama singing the blues in tribute to the cranky ole man. But that's not the only stuff that's been happening here in Florida...

Last night our neighbor came running up knocking on our door. Turns out that we could watch the space shuttle launch from the back yard. Can you imagine that?! 'Tis true. A flash of light went shooting up into the sky leaving behind it a trail of thick squiggly smoke that started out pink and wiggled its way to gray.

The freaks come out - in the day!

I've been quite remiss in posting. That's because I have been BUSY with work, which is wonderful even if it does mean less leisure time. However, I couldn't help but notice what I believe are brown anoles. They are everywhere and skitter around when I work outside on the patio. But yesterday they were doing much more...
These two were fighting! Which meant that they weren't paying quite so much attention to the person with the camera. At one point they separated (I got too close) and big orange pouches (called dewlaps) swelled from their necks. They really put on a show for me.

Gorillas and Monkeys

Rich and I attended a dinner party and theater performance...with lots of gorillas and monkeys! The performance, Body of Water, was produced by Stageworks Theare and hosted by Gorilla Theatre.

As you can see from the photo, Rich is not only refusing to be my photographic muse, but also refusing to allow me to set-up the shot! Nevertheless, he manages a fun snapshot. Such a steady hand.
